WASHINGTON, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Bosch Thermotechnology boiler service kits due to a fire hazard.
About 1,500 service kits for gas-fire boilers were imported from The Netherlands by Bosch Thermotechnology of Londonderry, N.H., and sold nationwide through heating contractors from February-May this year.
The service kits, numbered 8718600187, are used to test heating water quality on Buderus gas-fired condensing boilers. They include a silver-colored adapter that can cause a gas leak, posing the threat of fire or explosion, the commission said in a statement.
Consumers with boilers serviced after Feb. 1, 2010, were advised to contact the service technician immediately to determine of a defective adapter was installed in their boilers. If so, consumers should arrange for a free inspection and repair.
Description: The recalled product is a service kit that was distributed for free to some contractors and distributors that contained a silver-colored adapter. The kit, which has the number 8718600187 on the side of the box, was used as part of a program to evaluate the effects of heating water quality on components of Buderus gas-fired condensing gas boilers with model numbers GB142/24, GB142/30, GB142/45, and GB142/60. The model number is located on a label on the bottom left side of the boiler
