Behind the Name
According to local Hudson historian, Willis Miller, Abigail Page was the first settler’s child born in Hudson on the very day the first steamboat docked at Hudson on the St. Croix River, on April 15, 1847. Hudson was then known as Willowriver, Territory of Wisconsin. The Page family farm was located on 80 acres in the place where Hudson High School is located - about 2 miles from where the antique store is. Abigail Bailey was her married name and she had 6 children. Only one remained in Hudson as a mail carrier and Spanish/American War Vet. In 1930 Abigail left Hudson to live with her daughter in California. An original spool bed from the original Page homestead was purchased by Hudson historian Willis Miller’s mother from Abigail Bailey herself. Mr. Miller had the bed restored and donated it to the local Octagon House and Museum in Hudson. Abigail died at over 98 years of age on November 14, 1945 at the home of her daughter.
The historic Taylor and Gross building that now houses Abigail Page Antiques has been home to many businesses - including 2 Grocery Stores, Hardware, and Clothing Store, Children’s Clothing and several others.
